Collegeville Borough Plans Holiday Festivities Dec. 3

The Ursinus community is welcome to join the holiday festivities in Collegeville Borough Dec. 3, including a run, a tree lighting and an open house. The Bearitones will be performing, and the Berman Museum of Art is co-sponsoring an ice sculpture artist.

 

The Main Street Program will host the inaugural Jingle Jog 5K race, which begins at the Collegeville Station on West 3rd Avenue in Collegeville at 3:30 .p.m. followed by the second Annual Holiday Tree Lighting and Festivities from 4 to 6 p.m. at the new municipal parking lot located at 3rd and Main Streets next to the Perkiomen Trail.  A Community Open House will cap the evening from 6 to 7 p.m.

 

Runners will enjoy a jaunt around town and on the Perkiomen Trail during the Jingle Jog 5K race, sponsored by First Niagara Bank.  Registration for the race begins at 2 p.m.   Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers and to males and females in the following age groups: under 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over (overall winners not eligible for age group awards).  T-shirts will be given to all participants who registered by Nov. 18 and on race day, while supplies last.  Race finishers will enjoy green hot chocolate, donated by the Irish Shop, cookies donated by Columbia Cottage, soup made by the new Lunch Box on Main, root beer and birch beer made by Appalachian Brewing Company and pretzels donated by the Philly Soft Pretzel Company.

 

The race will be followed by a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony as the new municipal trailhead parking lot is officially opened to visitors.  The new lot will accommodate up to 20 cars and provide a place for trail users to relax.  Plans are being made for an informational kiosk and town clock to be erected as well.

 

Sponsored by TR Insurance Group and The Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College, Mark Crouthamel of Sculpted Ice Works will carve two, 300-pound ice blocks into a holiday design from 4 to 6 p.m.

 

The Funny/Festive Sweater or Hat Contest will be held at 4:30 p.m. Contestants can register at the event, winners will be selected by the crowd and a prize will be awarded.

 

Entertainment will be provided by the Community Music School, The Ursinus College Bearitones, the Perkiomen Valley Jazz Choir, the Perkiomen Valley Brass Ensemble and the Trinity Reformed Church UCC Heavenly Harmony Quartet.

Unwrapped toys will be collected for the Toys for Tots toy drive.  Collection bins will be located at the event and in front of the Philly Soft Pretzel Company on Main Street.  The Philly Soft Pretzel Company will present coupons good for five free pretzels to anyone that donates a toy.

 

The evening will end with a tree lighting ceremony, and a Community Open House from 6 to 7 p.m. Participating restaurants include:  DaVinci’s Pub, where all may enjoy complimentary beer and wine; Lunch Box on Main, offering complimentary coffee and cookies; and Tortuga’s Mexican Eatery, Redner’s Shopping Center, offering a free appetizer or dessert with the purchase of a meal, as well as 10% off all holiday gift certificates.  Community Open House entry tickets must be obtained during the Tree Lighting Ceremony and Festivities.
