Spanish Lecturer awarded OPI certification

Giovanna Steyaert, Visiting Lecturer in Modern Languages, was awarded a Certification as an Oral Proficiency Tester in Spanish by the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). The ACTFL interview is a standardized procedure for the global assessment of functional speaking ability, according to the ACTFL web site. It is a face-to-face or telephone interview between a certified ACTFL tester and examinee that determines how well a person speaks a language by comparing the performance of specific communications tasks with criteria for each of 10 profieicncy levels described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines-Speaking (Revised 1999).
