Junior Presents Poster at ACS Event

Andrea Casuras, a junior Chemistry major, and her 2011 Summer Fellows mentor, Dr. Codrina Popescu, presented a poster entitled “Mössbauer Spectroscopy of Model Complexes for the Active Site of the Enzyme [FeFe]-Hydrogenase”, at the 2012 American Chemical Society Philadelphia Section Poster Session, which took place at Temple University Feb. 23. Andrea’s poster showcased ongoing NSF-funded research in the laboratory of Professor Popescu.  The research focused on Mossbauer spectra obtained last summer, at Ursinus, for a series of four model molecules for the enzymatic site where hydrogen generation occurs in photosynthetic bacteria.  Understanding these models is essential for our ability to build efficient catalysts for cheaper hydrogen production.
