Assistant Professor of History Susanna Throop on Medieval Cultural History

Assistant Professor of History Susanna Throop organized three sessions at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association this January in New Orleans, LA.
Throop organized the three interrelated sessions on behalf of an affiliated scholarly society, the Charles Homer Haskins Society. The sessions addressed broader issues in medieval cultural history through the lens of the crusading movement, and were titled: Medieval Culture in the Context of the Crusades 1: Political Fictions Medieval Culture in the Context of the Crusades 2: Religious Discourse Medieval Culture in the Context of the Crusades 3: (Im)material Identities. She chaired the first session, and in the second session she presented the paper “Emotion in Motion: The Rhetoric of Zeal and the Crusades.”
