Environmental Studies students and additional volunteers planted a rain garden April 16 at Hunsberger Woods. Environmental Studies and Spanish major Megan Maccaroni 2014 highlights the project in this video.
This project is a partnership of Ursinus College, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and Collegeville Borough, and is supported by grants from the Schuylkill River Restoration Fund and TreeVitalize. It is one of several projects taken on by the Environmental Studies Department which partners with community organizations.
Rain gardens are areas of native plants that collect and absorb storm water. This garden will help to restore and protect the streams located within the Hunsberger Woods natural area, which is located off Ninth Avenue.
Megan is UC Environmental Action Vice President and a UCGreen Media and Communications Fellow.
